New At Tunes: Barbara Dickson |
Greetings,
An online poll in the US has voted Jimi Hendrix as having the
greatest 'guitar face' of all time. Some 3,000 online voters
and 20 celebrity judges, all evidently beside themselves with
boredom, gave Hendrix 24% of their votes, ahead of BB King
(18%) and AC/DC's Angus Young, who polled an embarrassing 16%.
Speaking to ABC News (a slow day, presumably), Gary
Lucas, former guitarist with Captain Beefheart's Magic Band,
risked a justifiable beating saying that he voted for Hendrix
because "he channelled all the soulful ecstasy of the universe
through his hands, and this was naturally mirrored in his face."
Meanwhile, an associated competition to find the best
'amateur guitar face' was won by Les Campbell of Kentucky, who
valiantly out-gurned over 600 contestants with a mush that was
said to have "combined a Fu Manchu moustache and Elvis Presley
sneer with a passing resemblance to Metallica's James Hetfield".
On receiving the prize (a guitar), Campbell reflected on his
world-beating stupidity: "Guitar face is a spur of the moment
thing," the bozo opined "something you have no awareness or
control over." Next up, 'arse face' - ready Les?
