New At Tunes: Tracks |
Greetings,
The late, great Clash frontman Joe Strummer is to have a train
named after him. A ceremony to unveil the locomotive's new
plaque - inscribed simply with the words 'Joe Strummer' - is to
take place at Bristol Temple Meads station on Saturday at 1.15pm,
after which the Class 47 chuffer will return to service in East
Anglia. Given that East Anglia's rail network consistently
loiters around the bottom of the Strategic Rail Authority's
performance table, it seems unlikely that the folk behind this
honour are familiar with the Clash classic 'Train In Vain'.
Spotters and Bristolians may be interested to know that the
official Joe Strummer website, http://www.strummersite.com
is offering a special prize to the first person who sends
them a photo of the new punk loco.
