New At Tunes: Tiny Reminders |
Greetings,
When guitarist Darrell 'Dimebag' Abbott was shot dead by a
gunman who stormed onstage during a show by his band
Damageplan in Ohio in December, the rock community was
rocked (rocked!) to its tattooed, pierced, hairy and no
doubt hard core.
The founder guitarist with legendary metallers
Pantera was respectfully heralded for his commitment to
busting shit-kicking riffs on a signature Dean axe or a
spaz-shaped Washburn, and heartfelt tributes tumbled forth
attesting to Dimebag's fine nature and significant musical
contribution. Fan sites were overwhelmed with messages of
shared grief and condolence, media coverage was considered
and reverent and no one seemed to dare make jokes like
those Pope ones that are going around. Everything was cool.
Anyway, couple of months later a company called
KnuckleBonz Inc have decided to celebrate Dimebag's brief
life by creating a miniature likeness of the rocker. In short,
he is to be resurrected in the form of a plastic figure, the
actual dimensions of which seem to be rather elusive. I wonder,
will it fit on a key-ring?
KnuckleBonz Inc president Tony Simerman stated that
"We are incredibly honored to be working with the family to
create a meaningful tribute to Dimebag," adding excitedly:
"I still say 'Power Groove' on [Pantera's 1992 album] 'Vulgar
Display of Power' is the most perfect metal since the first
six Sabbath albums." Quite so.
The Dimebag Darrell Guitar Hero limited edition
sculpture (as its vendors would like it to be known) will
sell for $99 and can be purchased via www.guitarhero.net.
Pre-orders will be accepted in April 05. But how BIG is it?
