Subject New At Tunes: Jack & Coke

Greetings,
Voiding his bowels on the anti-corporate ideals his band
has espoused in the past, White Stripes stooge Jack White
recently confirmed that he has written a song for a new
Coca-Cola TV commercial. Barely visible amid a thickening
brown cloud, the inexcusably greedy musician had this to
say: "I was inspired by the commercial. To be asked to
write something along a theme of love in a worldwide form
appealed to me."
The Stripes made much of their refusal to appear
in a Gap commercial back in 2001, with White lamenting:
"We said 'no' and everyone said 'why not?'. Opinions about
selling out seem to have changed over the years."
Contrast Saucy Jack's arse-shaped hypocrisy with
the approach of The Doors drummer John Densmore, who last
year turned down $15 million from Cadillac for use of the
song 'Break On Through' to hawk its luxury SUVs. As he did
when Apple called with a $4 million offer, and continues
to do every time "some deodorant company wants to use
'Light My Fire'".
"People lost their virginity to this music, got
high for the first time to this music," Densmore explains.
"I've had people say kids died in Vietnam listening to this
music or that they know someone who didn't commit suicide
because of this music. On stage when we played these songs,
they felt mysterious and magic. That's not for rent."
