Subject New At Tunes: Has Someone Just Charted?

Greetings,
That's it then. The last ever 'Top Of The Pops' airs this Sunday.
Like a petrol hangover, the long-running UK music programme has
stubbornly refused to go away, despite limping on for decades beyond
its relevancy. And notwithstanding the trickle of hammy eulogies
from delusionals of a certain age who can never really have understood
or enjoyed music properly, the demise of this pinnacle of dad-at-
the-disco TV is to be celebrated. Time to stop gilding the stool
and give people what they want you cloth-eared duffers.

##ALBUM OF THE WEEK##
>> >>My Rocky Mountain - Erik Sumo<<
Debut long-player from Budapest beat juggler Ambrus Tovishazi who,
as Erik Sumo, has been immersed in rare Eastern European jazz,
library soundtracks, twisted funk and cutting edge Baltic break
beats for some time. Here he cooks up a concoction of Western inspired,
acid tinged future blues inspired by Morricone post-punk, Portishead
and the cosmic sounds of seminal outfits like the RTB Big Band.

##ALBUMS##
>> >>Organ Kane's Quintessential Grooves - Q-Continuum<<
Cosmic funky jazz and future funk from the excellent Q-Continuum,
who sound like a collision between Breakestra, Quantic Soul
Orchestra, Bootsy and George Shuggie Otis.

>> >>King At The Controls: King Jammy 1985-89 - Various<<
Jamaican producer King Jammy's pivotal electronic riddims helped usher
in the digital age of reggae 20 years ago with a hypnotic pulse that's
felt today in hip hop and dancehall. This excellent compilation and
companion DVD showcase Jammy's (aka Lloyd James) innovative sound as
well as the young, unique talents he nurtured.

>> >>Slow Children Playing - Five Deez<<
Recorded between 1993 and 1998, with the bulk of the tracks committed
to tape whilst the Fat John and Deez were still at school, this is
nonetheless a mature hip hop album with a raw, unpolished energy.

>> >>Fashion Week: Best Parties Vol.2 - Various<<
Soulful disco, funk and house mix selected by Dellacasa and described

##SINGLES##
>> >>Messin' Around - Wild Sugar<<
Fantastic rarity disco reissue, originally out in 1980. The title
track is a classy funky disco vocal tune, while the flip is a lost
mid tempo gem, recogniseable to spotters as having provided the
sample for the Beastie Boys track 'Brass Monkey'.

>> >>Funky In The Middle - Nickodemus feat. Jay Rodriguez<<
Mid-tempo Fela-style groove featuring Jay Rogriguez of the Groove
Collective on sax & Victor Axelrod of Antibalas on clavinet. Haaksman
& Haaksman's remix drops the bass line into a reggae stepper groove,

bringing in textures of Turkish flute, sax and melodica.
