New At Tunes: Aqua Dung |
Greetings,
"Avril Lavigne's 2002 debut album, 'Let Go', gave young women a
defiant voice and set it to music they could rock out to."
S'what her website says anyway, and the 14 million people who
bought into this defiance appeared to concur, sending sales
through the ceiling. So what now for this raging, angst-addled
representative of the beaten generation? How about the theme
song to Paramount's latest kids cartoon movie 'SpongeBob
SquarePants', the story of a talking sponge who hangs out in
an underwater McDonalds and drives a hamburger (with wheels made
from gherkins).
"I made the song a little more edgy," says Lavigne, in
reference to her fresh interpretation of the plinky nursery
rhyme that accompanies the TV series. "It's kind of like a
rock version of the original. There are a lot of loud guitars,
and we picked the tempo up a little and sang it with more
attitude." Here's a sample lyric to get you in the mood. Brace
yourselves now: "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? /
SpongeBob SquarePants / Absorbent and yellow and porous is
he / SpongeBob SquarePants..." Grrrrr!
