The Ruts: Babylon's Burning Reconstructed - Various Added 12/10/2005   on the Collision label
Melding the Sex Pistols instrumental attack with leader Malcolm Owen’s Strummeresque bellow the Ruts were born out of a pub rock band. But unlike other bands, The Ruts often incorporated reggae riffs and adopted simple straightforward political lyrics that were heartfelt but not strident.

With massive support from John Peel they signed with Richard Branson’s Virgin Records and released their now classic single, Babylon’s Burning. Amazingly the single rocketed to number seven in the charts and garnered them two appearances on Top of the Pops.

Twenty six years later, well after the death of Malcolm Owen and the end of the band as it was back then, it almost seems fitting that a tribute was put together to honor The Ruts. Babylon’s Burning is that tribute.
