This is the first album release on Calm Beast Records, a label set up to put out the best in new (not “nu”) jazz. Sugar Beats’ style is difficult to pin down, but that might explain why it appeals to so many different people. This album represents the journey of a typical Sugar Beats set, mixing up tempos, feels and rhythms but somehow holding together as an individual sound.
