Funky Walk Parts 1 and 2 - Dyke & The Blazers Added 13/08/2008   on the Original Sound label
When they say saw the massive success achieved by one Mr James Brown, US Record Companies in the late 60's/early 70's all scrambled to get tight funky combos who could emulate the JB groove onto their roster, which led the way to Kool and The Gang , Fatback and other highly successful groups of the era.

Some experienced chart success, others fared less successfully , although they were equally as good musically and maybe even more inventive. One such band was Dyke and the Blazers. They recorded for a label which was associated more with 'oldies' reissues at the time, Original Sound, and this might have hampered their commercial credentials a little.

Anyway we can now look back on the era and appreciate the lesser-known bands with a more open mind. Dyke recorded a string of singles which we will be releasing for your consumption on a systematic basis in the coming months. Here's the first. A tight-as-they-come rhythm section with Dyke yellin' the steps to a new dance in the time-honoured way. Part 2 goes more into an instrumental groove which appeals to the writer best.
