Cracker Jack - Mickey & His Mice
Added 18/09/2008
on the US Marti label
Saxophonist Mickey Fields was a local legend around the Baltimore area. He cut just one album under his own name, plus this 45 rpm single with his local pick-up band in '70.
Like so many singles in the Funk genre, the track which is in demand was originally the B side, with his sensuous version of the Marvin Gaye hit 'Abraham Martin and John' being the official 'plug side', but 'Cracker Jack, with its similarity to James Brown's 'The Popcorn' pushes all the right buttons.
A tight funky combo instrumental. Its essential for lovers of hard drivin' music and here at a bargain price so get it while you can.
