Bug-Eye - Johnny States & Son
K.C. Drive - Tommy Wills

Two burning Hammond instrumentals on Funk 45! You won’t hear more blistering hot Hammond funk anywhere!

Hailing from rural Pennsylvania, Johnny States was born half-Apache and, with his son on guitar, gigged around one horse towns in the area. A wizard on the organ, he cut the track ‘Bug-Eye’ for local indie label Rendezvous in 1970. Now a super-rare funk 45s, this is vicious uptempo Hammond screamer, with wah-wah guitar and fatback drums – yes sir that’s the down home spirit!

‘K.C. Drive’ by saxophonist Tommy ‘Hornman’ Wills is a ‘60s boogaloo funk crossover with an all-star cast– rapid fire Hammond (courtesy Caesar Frazier), cascading drums, guitar from cult funk figure Robert Lowe and a horn line borrowed from the Batman himself! The sound of greasy spit and sawdust parties in Tommy’s home state of Indiana, this is sure to get the feet shuffling wherever it’s played as was always intended!
