Stealin“ James is DJ Format's modern day cut 'n' paste tribute to the music of the sadly deceased Godfather of Soul, James Brown. It is very much in keeping with the style of the classic JB 'cut-up' records such as Coldcuts “Payback mix“, Double D & Steinski“s 'Lesson 2“ and of course “Feelin“ James“, reputedly the work of Danny Krivit.
Whilst avoiding some of the more cliched areas of the JB catalogue, Format makes use of the advances in technology since the days of the original cut-up records by chopping up and time-stretching different well know (and not so well known!) riffs & solos and re-assembling them in a completely new way.
