Alvin was making it funky back before the term had hardly been thought of. A pioneer of the small combo funk thang, and making great records like this. It was really only later that the majority of his stuff got appreciated fully, although he did hit the charts with his ‘Twine’ releases. Very evocative of the Chicago Funk scene of ’69.
