The debut album from Danks and Whitehouse is a top quality hi-fi mosaic of jam sessioned vibes. A fusion of Latin flavours, funky rhythms, folky tunes and dubbed out, laid back studio trickery. "`Cartouche` is the work of classically trained musicians who`ve fallen for the colourful joys of electronica," the blurb explains. Pretty accurate, as it happens.

a funky lowlife
After a couple more records, this group will ascend to greatness in line with Baby Mammoth. Cartouche has everything: arguably a top-five disk in any collection. Have yet to hear any voice as seductive and pure as Clare Szembec's. Props to Danks and Whitehouse; we humble lowlives patiently await the next installment.
