About Ninja Tune...
Pioneering sampler pirates since the '80s, Matt Black and Jonathan Moore (aka Coldcut) cut their teeth as the production team behind chart acts like northern crooner Lisa Stansfield and elongated disco ape Yazz, before a trip to Japan spawned the Ninja Tune concept in 1990. |

Ninja Tune Biography
The label developed alongside the seminal 'Stealth' club nights at the Blue Note club in east London (presided over by artists like Funki Porcini and The Herbaliser) and began to gather serious momentum with the release of the 'Jazz Brakes' series of albums, pushing out raw, funky hip hop to wide critical acclaim. Ninja Tune’s commitment to music over subsequent years has been truly outstanding; their nurturing of fresh talent sets them apart from many other independents (recently picking up Bonobo from ace Brighton label Tru Thoughts and Homelife from Justin Robertson's Master Detective imprint), while the release of a constant stream of quality hip hop and breaks records from highly-respected artists keeps them in the essential list. As rampant technology disciples, Ninja have been responsible for some of the most forward-thinking musical, visual and multimedia projects, with cut-and-paste video samplists Hexstatic spearheading the label's advanced audio-visual operations. Selected Ninja artists: Amon Tobin, Coldcut, DJ Food, The Herbaliser, Mr Scruff, Kid Koala, DJ Vadim, Cinematic Orchestra, Up, Bustle & Out, Fink, Neotropic, Bonobo, Homelife, Pest, 9Lazy9. |
